I'd be really interested to hear more about the specific things you struggle with and how your solutions try to address those for you personally. It might be encouraging to see how you struggle it overcome despite that.

    Gosh dang it, and I was wondering, since I was initially diagnosed with AuDHD - "he tried so many different systems and ideas for doing stuff and productivity, he's kind of obsessed with it, and he also talks like a machine gun, but for some reason all his ideas as well as his personality as a whole resonate with me on so many levels... he's got to have ADHD or AuDHD as well, right?". And here we are :D

      @@HomeTeamGameDev Ive been a sub since your snake in 5min video!, Ive been practice and now my record to code that same game is 9min! I have a question though: what does It take to find a home office job in game dev nowdays Bro? I have some knowledge in js... Greetings from Brazil! ;-)

    • @HomeTeamGameDev
      @HomeTeamGameDev Месяц назад

      That is a question which does not have an easy answer to fit into a RUclips comment, because in addition to being an always evolving landscape of options it depends greatly on what your background, interests, priorities, risk tolerance, and so on are. Because it requires knowing the person this is more the sort of thing I work with members on in HomeTeam GameDev, but I'll share what can be said in a general sense here. While there are still more remote opportunities today than there were before COVID pushed more companies to try it, that many have been replaced with roles returning to office has reduced the number of openings relative to the far more people who are seeking them, so it is very competitive. This has long been the case for games in general, though. One definite thing I'll suggest, even though it is how you found me, is to no longer worry at all about giving time or attention to speed coding, if your interest is in finding a job. The 5min video was a marketing stunt of me showing off to get attention, but to lead people to that programming course where over 3 hours I then show and explain better ways to do things even for a basic introductory level. The gameplay side is often available in abundance due to game jams and that being a part people find fun to do, if seeking to build a career in it you might look into pathways that are less surface level - middleware companies, tools layer, real-time networking or database interactions - deeper skills in doing something that a company needs done and cannot quickly figure out in-house. A starting point to stay grounded for this is to search for actual remote job listings which you are not yet qualified for, but then instead of bouncing off of it by filtering it out as not for you, treat that as a checklist for some things to direct your next area of study, practice, and to show in your portfolio. Though that position will long be gone by the time that's accomplished, there is often a pattern to these things, and it reduces the mismatch between what people guess someone is hiring for and what there are actual jobs for at any given time. Best wishes! Greetings from Boston.

    Great video. Unity is about to increase the personal license to 200k in late 2024 with the release of Unity 6. After that, it's a runtime fee OR 2.5% whichever is lower. Unreal is free until you make over a million, then 5%. The royalties really aren't bad at all. You'll be cursing a lot more at Steam's 30%. The engine fee is nothing and only kicks in when you're making a real income. Plus I bet you can deduct it on your taxes, so reduce it by 24 to 30% whichever tax bracket you fall in. I definitely fall in the category of person tinkering with technology more than games. I've made numerous projects and quit once I had all the mechanics working and it was time to really flesh out the game, add levels, the story, etc. Those are questions I really struggle with answering. For me, I'm going back to Unity to make an actual game. Learning C++ and game engines is valuable, but has to be a long-term goal. Not a task that needs to be finished before making and shipping a game.

    I’ve been learning game design in this project based way on my own for a bit, and I’ve learnt so much more via this than any tutorials. If you are wanting to learn anything most softwares/languages have documentation (I use unity/c# and it’s super well documented, so it’s so much easier to start learning)

    For me it's options 1: I want to make games according to my designs and also to learn how to design games that I would want to play. I actually already work at a gamedev company as a programmer, but for one, programmers nowadays don't necessarily get the amount of influence over the designs that they used to get, but also I've learned that the type of design that goes on at large companies isn't necessarily the kind of design I'm interested in doing as a hobby. Congratulations on the 10 years anniversary and happy birthday!

I developed the rest including some back and forth iteration with the publisher ngmoco. I was developing it mostly on iPod Touch before I had access to an iPhone :D

But until they get with the big boys then and only then will they realize they know nothing. Cause even the big boys are struggling. Find someone that is humble in their intellect i guess

    I watched a couple of your YT vids & went to your website. After spending 10 minutes reading the FAQ and other sections, l couldn't find any pricing information. Where is it? Because I don't buy anything through an ad or website that forces me to take the the time to fill out and submit a form or make a phone call or says to me: "We want you to take additional time to give us a chance to make an additional sales pitch or get your email for a mailing list before we allow you to see if the product might fit into your budget." Saying that filling out your "application " form to "screen" trolls etc. is disingenuous, since you could still request completing the form after you supply pricing info. I like your approach, but the pricing issue is a red flag for me. But maybe I missed an obvious location for price info?

      Yikes, that is concerning - thank you for letting me know! I'm not able to reproduce it on my side, but obviously believe you on it and interested in looking further into it, any details you can suggest of things that might help me diagnose? (Specific browser/OS/device you used to visit, if you catch this and you're comfortable naming those? if you try again with that same device, is it still doing a 400 error? not meaning to send you off into any extra work, but if there's any high level or top of head notes it can help point my focus in the right direction to finding a way to repro and fix it)

      Thanks for quick details! Unfortunately I'm still unable to reproduce the issue with my setup using either FF phone (Android) or desktop (Mac), or in Brave using phone or desktop, but I have friend who's a literal pro with server stuff, he might be able to help me diagnose further what might be going on. With it happening for you I'm sure it's gotta be showing up for others, too, it's just tough for me to resolve until I can recreate it to have a way to test if anything I attempt makes any difference. We'll look into it further though. Thanks again for the heads up, I appreciate it!
